O.K. PARKING

Following the raging succes of the virgin issue of O.K. Periodicals, a second edition follows suit. The theme: Failure, or how I learned to appreciate my mistakes. Through an intriguing graphic approach, this magazine shows how to work with mistakes, and make the most of them.

O.K. PERIODICALS

"Phew! It's been a long time since I've got excited by any new magazine. This mag looks unprententious, original and fun. I love the cover!"
– Jeremy Leslie (Magculture.com en curator van Colophon, an international symposium on excellence and innovation in the independent magazine-industrie.)

Graphic design studio O.K. Parking in collaboration with Bouwe van der Molen edits, designs and publishes O.K. Periodicals. This themed biannual publication investigates the relationship between on- and offline media. It is directly linked to O.K. Blog (www.ok-blog.nl).
Continuous growth in the number of blog members proves that there is enough backing for an online, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural source of inspiration. An international base supplies articles on graphic design, interaction design, product design, free art, illustration and photography among other things. Furthermore, technological and scientific developments are closely monitored and reported.

O.K. FAILURE

Following the raging succes of the virgin issue of O.K. Periodicals, a second edition follows suit. The theme: Failure, or how I learned to appreciate my mistakes. Through an intriguing graphic approach, this magazine shows how to work with mistakes, and make the most of them.

A large number of people from around the world contributed material and articles to this publication, covering a wide range of subjects crossing various disciplines; neuropsychologist Roos Bijvelds explains how our blundering brain makes us dazzle when seeing op-art, JODI and Beflix show us their glitches, and scientific blunders, misspelled tattoos, environmental tragedies and the effects of dementia on time perception complete the mix.

This issue has been submitted to an accident-prone production process. The first 32 pages have been exposed to multiple print errors and each cover has been screen printed in a special color combination. By giving serendipity a chance, each magazine is unique.

O.K. COLLECTIONS or How I Stop Worrying and Love The Amount of Stuff I Collect

Graphic design studio O.K. Parking, in special collaboration with Bouwe van der Molen and Jeremy Jansen, publishes the first magazine in a series of O.K. Periodicals. Twice a year a new issue with a new theme will be published, in which the relationship between magazine, blog and internet is explored. This first edition is packed with extraordinary collections, passionate collectors and splendid graphic design.

The colorful collections range from mountains of single-use cutlery to black-metal band logos, and from Fionas to insect-wings. Photographers, designers, artists, writers and underground-philatelists from all over the world made their talents and collections available to us. 'OK Collections' is the result of this eclectic international collaboration.

The magazine is a consequence of the succes of the O.K. Blog (www.ok-blog.nl). Continuous growth in the number of members proves that there is enough backing for an online, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural source of inspiration. An international base supplies articles on graphic design, interaction design, product design, free art, illustration and photography among other things. Furthermore, technological and scientific developments are closely monitored and reported.

O.K. Collections is a visually oriented magazine. The 160 full-color pages, zero(!) advertisements, and an item from an exclusive collection to be found in every issue, make this magazine a collectors item itself. O.K. Collections is available in several bookstores and through http://magazine.ok-parking.nl.

About the makers

O.K.PARKING / interaction & graphic designers is a singularly flamboyant studio from Arnhem, founded by William van Giessen and Joost van der Steen in 2005. Commissioned work includes books, magazines, identities, exhibition design and primarily innovative websites. They also initiate many free projects including interactive installations, projects in public space and special collaborations such as the O.K. blog. These projects inspire new ideas and give rise to new ones such as O.K. Periodicals. Their work is greatly appreciated by colleagues and widely published in (inter)national media.
Bouwe van der Molen is an art director and graphic designer with roots in editorial design. Remapping the boundaries of design provides him with an international network of interdisciplinary colleagues. He applies his ideas and graphics solo and in diverse collaborative efforts. He joined the O.K. Periodicals team in the first hour following his enthusiastic contributions to the O.K. blog.
